In the ancient tradition of Indian Medicine namely Ayurveda, Turmeric is used for therapy to cure many diseases. It is often applied on wounds from burn or from accidents to heal quickly as Turmeric is also an excellent anti-septic. Traditional Chinese Medicine, Unani Tradition of Medicines, Siddha Medicine tradition of India use turmeric widely in curing the diseases.

Although many research by modern medicinal scientist is ongoing, they have found preliminary results to favor turmeric as an anti-inflammatory substance. It is also known to be good to strengthen immune system.

Turmeric is also used as a dye. In South of India, They are used as dye in Sari (typical dress of South Indian women). Paper is made out of Turmeric powder which is used as an indicator to measure the PH level of any liquid.
